10 Ways the AAF is Better Than The NFL & XFL! (And Why You Should Watch)

The AAF or Alliance Of American Football League has a pretty good product and in some ways are already better than the NFL. The XFL will have a hard time launching as the AAF fills the void in the market.

So much for that. Bottom line is consumers don't change their habits all that quickly. The last home game for Memphis had about 200 people in the stands. And there were no major TV contracts. This league was doomed from the beginning. The play on the field was actually pretty good, though.

Well, that was quick... not even 2 months later, the AAF folds; and I understand why it did. 1. AAF salary could not compete with NFL basic salary; plus NFL players make millions on endorsement deals. 2. Even if there were players who rather be paid less if they could start a game in the AAF, the NFLPA would never allow it since any injury in the AAF could result in an NFL career ending since owners could drop players injured in the NFL's off-season. 3. AAF could have been an alternative to the NCAAF but the NCAA is too established and AAF failed to advertise themselves as such. 4. Regardless of what the AAF had hoped it would become, no league can stand if it has to rely on the investment or charity of a single guy.

Your crazy if you think the AAF is better than the NFL! Sure, the hits may be harder in the AAF....for now. There is a reason why the NFL did away with allowing you to hit the crap out of a defenseless player. It’s because of the long term effects of CTE which has affected so many players. Once the public outcry/lawsuits start coming, the AAF will go the way of the NFL. My money is on the XFL being the spring league that makes it. The AAF couldn’t even make payroll in its 3 week of play and had to have a 250 million dollar bailout to keep going. The NFL makes 14 billion per year so to expect the AAF to knock them off the top spot is crazy.

My take on the AAF after 3 weeks: too many flags. The game yesterday in Atlanta was a flag fest. Secondly, I can't believe the amount of drop balls either. Man, stunning to see some of these drops for essentially a Triple A pro league. I imagine Division 2 players don't drop as many balls. Quarterbacking is, let's just say, interesting. Inconsistent is too nice a word for the play so far. I'm still surprised they don't have an ole Nebraska style running team with Turner Gill. I'm not concvinced that won't work in the NFL but certainly worth a shot in the AAF given the lack of QB play. Lastly, too many field goals. They should have made it that once you're inside the 35, or even 25 you need to go for it on 4th down. But, I love the league and watch every game I can. Hopefully it'll stick. Probably watched 10 complete football games in the last 5 years. So the AAF has totally brought me back.

Eliminating kickers tho? Think about a team scores and is down by one. To tue they game up they need an extra point... but they have to go for 2 and %90 of the time they arent going to get it.

I like watching the best of the best football players in the world. That means the NFL. I'll watch the AAF don't get me wrong but I'm not going to be glued to it. I doubt my interest will ever surpass that of the NFL. Matter of fact I know it won't. No blitzing by the AAF which means that the QBs don't have to think as much. It takes a big element to the game. You already know what play your going to run so just run the play. Takes away the thinking part, changing the play on what u see on defense. If I want to watch football players I don't know or aren't the best of the best, I can also go to a High School game & watch football.

In order for the AAF to stick around, they need to generate more revenue. I know they are all about less commercials, but commercials make them money. They have all ready been bailed out of financial trouble by an NHL owner. 250 million dollars in debt in game 2? They need to get things straight. The only other issue I see, is in fact some of the hits.If this is in fact a farm league, then some of the hits are going to get them penalized in the NFL. I love the hits and I am glad they are allowing the guys to play the game, but I do think, if this is indeed a farm league they need to be smarter about the big hits. I know the AAF is young, but I would like to see them expand beyond 8 teams, eventually..

I am quite excited for the AAF, the only thing I don't like is the no kickoffs rule. I don't want kickoffs, but I think the surprise factor of the onside kick will be lost. I think ALL scores should be followed by a 4th & long from the scoring team at their own 25/30. This way, most teams are going to punt, but you can play it if you are in need. Also, it maybe brings some cool trick plays at unexpected moments.

Touch the QB with a finger tip it's a 15 yard penalty. I'm a Green Bay Packers fan. I'm looking for them days when Joe Montana, Lawrence Taylor, Reggie White, Steve Atwater and Bruce Smith types of players. Miss them types of days.

Gonna be honest i was at the Birmingham Iron game this past weekend against Salt Lake. we had absolutely NO idea what was going on, Refs mic was so low we had to guess what call was happening and the rule changes were super hard changes for the fans, booing hits that looked like pass interference and such. however the game was great and will definitely be back for more, HIGHLY recommend

Salt lake city, what a football city. I think they really missed on a few team locations. Salt lake city is the worst but really Birmingham, Atlanta? They arent gonna turn out. the seats will remain empty and the league will lose money until they put teams in real football cities. Makes me wonder if maybe the NFL blocked them from starting franchises in certain places. That's a very NFL thing to do

I'm a big "rugby" fan - both rugby union - the truly continous game - and rugby league which has downs but which is very fast paced. I know a lot about gridiron though, from doing immigration cases for people who wanted to go to the US and Canada to play. So I like a continuous game. So let me tell you what I think is good. 1. The review - it's improved. I still think that the TV official in rugby is better - I prefer having the entire footage put on the big screen for everyone to see. 2. The officals - that's an improvement. NFL officals always remind me of your granddad. AAF officials don't seem to be so aged! Plus the fact that nearly all of them are white! I mean, let's be honest, American "football" is well, a game where the majority of major players are black! One would expect that would be across the board for the officials as well. 3. I'd like to see more encouragement through the rules of lateral plays. They work in Rugby well, add more chance to running play. Work in american football as well - but it isn't played often. 4. Steal the rugby rule that a touchdown requires downward pressure of the ball, and that a touchdown can be "stopped" by holding a player up once they are in the touchdown zone. This resolves the biggest problem with american football to date, which is when you get right up to the line, your defence cannot (realistically) stop a touchdown - which makes it boring as hell. Whereas in rugby defence "at the try line" is a major excitement. 5. Steal the rule from rugby about conversion kicks. make it so the kick goes from in line with where the touchdown is recorded. This rule makes how you score a touchdown very important for hard it is to score the conversion. Makes that more interesting. Simply put, whilst I love rugby, and enjoy watching American football, I think that American football would do well by taking a step back to its rugby roots, and taking back some of the best elements. It would make the game more interesting.
