5 Animals That Sleep Too Much (and One That Might Not Need To)

In the animal kingdom, sleeping can be dangerous. Lying completely motionless and unconscious for hours at a time is just asking for trouble. There are, however, some sleepy risk-takers who spend almost all of their days snoozing.

Since suffering a brain abscess I've needed at least 9-11 hours of sleep a day (sometimes with naps on top of that) if I want to function. On another note, I'm surprised pandas don't make this list since they don't get much nutrition from their food like koalas. Pandas mainly sleep, find food, eat and poop.

I slept 11 hours this night, the usual length of my sleep cycle when undisturbed and then I lay down for a 2 hour afternoon sleep. I ususally get tired at six o clock for my afternoon nap and wake up at eight. My natural sleep cycle also has me going to bed between 0 and 2 am and waking up between eleven and 13 pm. I can also get by with 10 hours of sleep at night, but if it gets any less I get sleep deprived and more sleepy by the day. When I have been sleep deprived I tend to sleep longer than 11 hours, my record has been 23 hours of uninterrupted sleep, leaving me really confused for waking up one hour earlier than going to bed. Obviously my sleep rhythm does not fit in society so I am usually sleep deprived trying to fit into the corsett society forces me into. Thank god for sundays.

A convincing theory on why humans are born "early" is that because we are bipedal AND have a huge brain/cranium, and that gestating any longer would require a hip structure that would limit the mother's mobility

And all of my motor functions and decision making skills diminish severely when I am sleep deprived. It sucks.
