    I’ve always found that the really black parts of burnt bread can be scraped away and they still taste great. Cooking with a two year old can teach you things a French chef cannot!

    cut a v out of the top cut instead of just one cut. Makes a perfect bed for filling without having to bend the bottom and make it weaker. That way you don't get the bottom blowing out when the sauce soaks in. Plus you have left over bread to make croutons for a salad on the side.

    pesto often has pine nuts and parmesan cheese but it really is any herb with olive oil really

    If I ordered a meatball sandwich and someone gave me a sausage, fennel, and pesto sandwich I'd punch them in the face. I'm sure it tastes good but that is not a meatball sub on any level, rolling your sausage into balls doesn't make it a meatball.

    Ok so I make that type of sauce but with cilantro and a little bit of lemon and I’ve always wondered if it is a pesto I mean I’ve always called the cilantro sauce 😂😂

    I feel like sausage meat is ground too fine and would make a tough meatball regardless of whether you pack it light or not. Is this really not the case?

    did i miss the parts where you added lemon zest/strips to sausage/sauce and/or grated Parmesan and pine nuts to pesto? i know they're not necessary, but i like those flavors with sausage and tomato. other than those differences, i wouldn't change a thing. & mazel tov on the book's success!

    Italian here: pesto is a sauce tipically of vegetables and oil PLUS nuts and or cheese. A sauce is anything liquid cooked, and a sugo is what remains after a long cooking procedure. So the one by Carla is a Basil sauce, while if she would have put in cheese and or nuts it would be a pesto, even if inside a food processor.
