I cannot believe this. Watching at 49:34, this guy is saying that a 50% increase in young girls aged 12-17 killing themselves is a small number. I don't know how stupid you can be to suggest that any amount of young girls killing themselves is acceptable. How irresponsible it is to even think that a 50% increase in suicide in general is a small amount. There are people within your society who struggle with vicious negative mental thoughts everyday and go unnoticed until the worst happens, and you obviously don't even care. You might as well be saying vaccinations cause autism. You have obviously never dealt with depression or known anyone who has suffered from it. Depression and suicide are very real today and you are the reason it can go untreated for years in young adults, ignoring glaring facts in spite of what you wish to believe, such a simple mind. Man I hate this nut but Joe Rogies and the Buff Doctor seem like they know whats goin on.

I think Anxiety is more a factor that turn people crazy and/or violent than Cannabis. And i also think that anxious people about to turn crazy or violent (because they can't handle their anxiety anymore) tend to turn themselves toward cannabis use because its really effective to calm themselves down (Sometimes cannabis is not enough tho). Cannabis doesn't turn people psychotic, psychotic people turn to cannabis use because it helps them. And that its why its related in statistics. That's what i think.

Like I'm not saying it should be given for everything or associating my depression from being clean. I'm just saying this guys argument is "it has side effects? Then it's not medicine" like I've seen a few anti-depressants list an increase in depression as a side effect but they are still considered anti-depression medication. Yes high level thc has different effects on different people and it can cause nausea and even can worsen some people's mental conditions but so can actual drugs labeled as medication. Plus with social media, increase of truly dangerous drug use, our cureent presidents publically displayed hate speech and his Twitter feed, and the push of political correctness forcing beliefs on others as science when it isnt (non binary genders are a mental belief, trans people are still biologically their birth gender. Sorry but that's the science and gender dysmorphia is still a disorder) depression is going to increase. This man is ignoring actual factors to push his argument because he is using only the parts that help his argument despite no true correlation. It also seems like he pushing against the idea of saying it's better then alchohol (which yes it is but it's still not meant for younger people to be able to obtain it legally without medical need in which case CBD should be prescribed) and looping medical thc in with it out of confusion. There is medicine you can build a tolerance too as well as have a naturally higher tolerance (like I do with pain meds and anesthetics which is what lead me originally to try weed was my high tolerance) All medication has a negative effect on some people and the same can be said with surgical procedures, but those medications have also been proven to be correlated to said side effects and some of them showed signs after said drugs and procedures were passed medically.

Correlation does not imply causation, half of Alex's argument is made on an assumption. This guys logic is that Increasing pot use and increasing mental illness = pot causes mental illness. the more probable explanation is the exact opposite of his assumption, that pot use is increasing because mental illness is increasing = people are already sick and then self medicating with pot. People also report mental illness to get pot.

Personally I’d say the increase in suicide with social media is more to do with the unobtainable body perfect image achieved with photoshop and people sitting comparing themselves to false facetuned “beauty”. People sit and wish they had other people’s lives and get miserable over it.

I enjoyed the debate, but it could have been better. Neither side clearly stated the foundation of their arguments before launching into the details. Seems like the main thrust of Berenson's argument is: "We shouldn't classify and treat THC as a medicine without more scientific research that addresses a national scale." Hart's: "Cannabis, and regulated doses of THC under the supervision of a responsible physician, has medicinal benefit." These aren't opposing foundations. Hart is correct, and so is Berenson. The remainder of the debate is still valid, but I think it would have been a better exchange had the basic premises been more clearly stated.

I would argue that use of marijuana and mental illness is a case of the chicken and the egg. Some that have symptoms of mental illness reach for the self medication route. The correlation is there and it is used to point the finger as a cause rather than an attempt at a solution.

A mother fights the only enemy she can find when seeing their sons and daughters develop horrific mental disconnect. Marijuana is the easy target. For such an extreme case as stated here, it is my opinion that mental illness would have developed in this individual regardless of marijuana use. Genetics, particularly through the mothers side, is one of the few reliable studies that show indicators for mental illness in future generations. I am positive that she was informed of this and the guilt by association can make a person look for alternate solutions that are not there, instead of knowing it is in the family and the genetic code.

Those that have the need to control everything can experience paranoia with small amounts of marijuana because the mind is now going against one of the strongest feeling and ritual that the person has. The relative paranoia is amplified for these folks. Being forced to reflect and not being the constant creator of your path can be terrifying for those than over plan and over evaluate their every action and thought. Sometime you can walk the path before you instead of getting the heavy machinery out and blazing a new trail for your every step. Anxiety goes down significantly with use, but not feeling the anxiety is the open door for paranoia. Anxiety can be the security blanket.

Abilify is a relatively new drug, the drug reps push it because it makes more money due to the licensing and generic unavailability, and Dr's respond with prescribing. The spinning wheel of the prescription drug business is huge business. An add on drug that results in breast growth for boys is just a bonus i guess. Being a Dr is a business, and many get lost in the delusion that these are the saints of our time and base their practice on enriching lives, but it is actually about making money.

Alex Berenson is a hack - he uses; selection bias, cherry picking, inference of causation from correlation and anecdotes in an attempt to "back-up" his unscientific, indeed anti-scientific, assertions - indeed a group of 100 scholars and clinicians (including academics from Columbia University, Harvard Medical School, and New York University, and care providers including addiction medicine doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists and social workers) published an open letter criticizing Berenson's claim of a scientific link between cannabis use and violence - you can read it here: www.drugpolicy.org/resource/letter-scholars-and-clinicians-who-oppose-junk-science-about-marijuana
