bird was such a great complete player that if DENNIS RODMAN was on the celtics bird would have found a way to get dennis double doubles all night . ,.......... what prolly isnt talked enough about is how much better he most likely made every one else around him play . can you imagine the passes being fed to you and you not looking and how long a coach would let you play or keep you on a team .

it all comes down to awareness for bird and he was unmatched as far as ball handling and team work ..... i would make him the jack nicklaus of golf and either magic or jordan the tiger woods of golf ,,,,,,,,,,,, i could list as we all could tons of good things about them all the one thing i was curious without googling was his fG attempts a game vs other players ,,,,,,,,,, you can score 30 a game but at what cost to the team , jordan took alot of shots shaq dunked alot of balls and missed alot of free throws and so on so attempts should be a issue of discussion for theese players ,

Too many people fixated on jumping ability and blazing foot speed. It’s not a track meet and it’s not high jumping, it’s basketball and if you can’t grasp the difference then it’s pointless trying to explain

Three things to remember with Bird, Magic played against him a Jordan and was quoted saying, "Bird ids the ONLY player i ever feared when he had the ball." Jordan's coach Phill Jackson said in his book, "Sure if the game is on the line I want the ball in Jordan's hands, but if my life is on the line give it to Bird." I cannot recall the two seasons but for 2 years Jordan and his Bulls lost every game the faced against Bird and his Celtics. Jordan had ZERO rings of finals appearances till Birds last year where he missed most of the season hurt. To before you aske Yes Jordan was better then Magic and Lebron. I am tied on Jordan/Kobe.

I respect the black players that act, talk, behave, and conduct themselves like White people. Nevermind all that ghetto crap and monkey language and behaviour. That's what everybody thinks but are too afraid to say because of political correctness. Well not me. I tell it like it is, and if you don't like it well then so be it.

2 things I despise in the NBA today: #1: it's about 95% blacks and non White Christians ( witch to me is anti-white and deplorable. #2: just about all the players are ridiculously tall and have an unfair advantage that makes the game too easy for them (6'2 to 7'3 feet tall) That's an unfair height advantage so they deserve no credit for when they score or win games. (I'd like to see them dunk when their 5'5 to 5'10) they wouldn't be able to, so there. That's the proof that they suck and don't deserve any credit or recognition because of their ridiculous height advantage, and that is the undeniable truth.

I don't care what anybody says, the 3 greatest players of all time are Jordan, Bird, and Magic. Put 'em in whatever order you want, but that's the 3 greatest. Period. I say, they are so great, if they are in their prime and played in today's game, 3 on 5, 82 games, bet they make the playoffs. And don't be shocked if they win a ring or 2. That's how great they were.

The NBA sucks today compared to the 80s and 90s up till the time that Jordan retired. Karl Malone also is a good man and NBA player that I had some respect for. Reggie Miller & John Starks were a bit arrogant, but they had more class and were less annoying than the gay behaving players like today's players ( Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, LeBron James, Chris Paul, the entire golden state warriors team pretty much, ect.... The athletes in the NBA today don't act mature or with any class whatsoever except a few of them.

I stopped watching and being a fan of the NBA since 1999 cause the players (almost only black people) have become too arrogant, rude, annoying, childish, gayish, ridiculous clowns that I have nothing in common with. I started watching and enjoying hockey the NHL, where the athletes are good fellow White Christians that behave like actual adults and with much more class, dignity, maturity, and respect than the black athletes in the NBA. Once again, that's the truth and I don't care if any of you liberals and hypocrite Democrats agree or say that I'm politically incorrect. I rather be honest and truthful than be politically correct, because political correctness only gets people nowhere. Simple as that.

Larry didn't have to have the athleticism and physicality of LeBron to beat him up. Larry mentally or psychologically beat the pants off of those types everyday. I was a Laker fan but I am not too proud to admit that Larry Bird was a genius. During that time he was the one that I hated most from the Boston Celtics. But in the end I have nothing but respect for him, his work ethic, and what he brought to the game of basketball. #Legend

Magic, that is exactly what is missing in today's game, the hatred for the other team. Today it's all about respecting the other players on the other teams, don't hate them, look up to them. WHY? you are SUPPOSED to hate them, you are supposed to want to rub their faces in it, you should want, no, NEED to destroy every player on the opposite team. That is one of the reasons why basketball was so great back in the 70's 80's and early 90's, teams hated each other and the fans hated them even more. And to answer the overlying question, I would take Larry Joe Bird over any other player in a draft, ANY.

Larry Joe Bird: Larry Bird was a stone cold killer with the clock winding down. Especially if you showed fear! He could always tell when somebody was scared of him. He said he could, so I sure as hell ain't gonna be the one to call him a damn liar. For someone with such limited athletic ability, he sure as hell got the job done. Obviously it was Larry's impeccable timing, that was the key to his rebounding ability. I'm certain we all know what Larry Bird's best attribute was. No doubt it was his basketball IQ. Like the great Julius Irving once said, "Larry was playing chess, while everybody else was playing checkers." He was always, always two or three plays ahead of everyone else on the court. And his shooting ability. Wow! Especially from "3-point land." Larry would take about 1000 shots a day just to keep himself sharp. So, when you combine all his skills, you get one amazing player. Shooting, second to none. His passing was a work of art. For a man that was 6' 9", he passed like he was 6' 1". He could block shots too. Again, it came down to his timing the jump. But Bird's tolerance for pain, is something that nobody's ever seen before. Bird would play no matter the injury or pain level. The pain in his back became so excruciating, that he had to lay down flat in the aisle of the team plane when the Celtics would travel. And even worse, he would lay down on the floor of the arena in front of the Celtics bench just to ease his pain. Yet he would still play. On May 5, 1991, in Boston at the Garden, the Celtics were playing the Indiana Pacers in the fifth and final game of their opening playoff series. But with 4:23 to play in the second quarter, Bird went diving for the ball, and smashed the side of his face on the parquet floor of the Garden. He was taken to the trainers section of the Celtics locker room to diagnose the extent of his injury. So in the meantime, the Celtics would have to play Reggie Miller and the Pacers without him. When the 3rd quarter began, Bird was nowhere in sight. Everyone assumed that Larry Bird was done for the game, and was probably on his way to the hospital for x-rays on his face. But with 6:46 remaining in the third quarter, and Boston clinging to a 73-71 lead, out of the tunnel trotted Larry Bird. The Boston Garden crowd just erupted! Bird began hitting shot after shot. And before Indiana knew what happened, they were trailing 112-96. Boston ended up winning 124-221, and were off next to play the Detroit Pistons in the next round. But for this game, it was all about Larry Bird, who ended up scoring 32 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. It was revealed later that Bird refused to go to the hospital for x-rays on his face. It turned out that when Bird returned to the game in the 3rd quarter, he was playing with a fractured cheekbone, among other injuries. But that was just how tough Larry Bird was folks. So like I already said, Bird's basketball IQ was amazing. But his leadership abilities were just as great. .. .

Fact of the matter, it is impossible to pick the "best" NBA player of all time. Players had/have different strengths and game skills. But Bird always amazed me. He could figure out ways to dominate a game with skill, savvy, and psyche. Ways to turn a game around. Ways to make a winning play at the end. Ways to take advantage of another player. He was just "different." Never seen anyone with his total package of skills. Bird was unique from any other player that I've seen play the game.

I could hardly believe my eyes but he seemed to be one step ahead of everyone. At that moment I understood what is meant by "thinking the game". I see it most similarly now in Luka Doncic. I think not only could he survive, but he would absolutely THRIVE with all these weak minded pus*y hey he touched me with his finger tip and called me a bad name "players" of today, now COULD LeBron survive in the '80's NBA with Bird talking sh*t, Bill Laimbeer Literally throwing forearms EVERYTIME he came in the paint, Ewing knocking his ass to the ground constantly, and MJ just totally mind f'ing him all year long? I don't know? But he's NEVER shown me ANYTHING that makes me think he could be a star during that era. I think he would have been productive but not a superstar. Im 58, grew up 20 miles north of Boston. Grad high school in 1979. Me an friends where there at the Garden (tickets were 11 dollars for balcony) I think we attended 14 games his rookie season. (Now remember this, watching the Bruins Hockey games was far more intense) until Bird came to us and the NBA league. 2 of my friends dads bought season tickets after Birds rookie season. We all knew, something huge was taking place. I wanted the games when Boston played Philly and Dr. J. ..Doc J was my favorite, but when you got to see what Bird was doing, his hustle on the floor and his shooting, it was amazing. The 2 saddest days in Boston for the Celtics, Larry Birds retirement, and the death of Lenny Bias.....Lenny Bias was already better than Michael Jordan in college, and had he been able to play in the NBA, we today would be heralding Lenny Bias as the most dominant Basketball Player to have lived. AS Great as Bird was, Magic and Michael, not one of them could have ever stopped Len Bias. God Bless to All!!! Enjoy Life and be kind! Thank You!

I think Jordan was the greatest of all time obviously but Bird was basically the perfect basketball player. He could do it all and I feel he is the best all around player of all time. He just lacked the athletic ability of a Jordan or Lebron. Maybe Bird wouldn't have been as good if he was more athletically talented though because he wouldn't have had to work on the mental game and fundamentals as much. Honestly Bird's career highlight reel is the most fun to watch because it isn't him just dunking over and over like some of these other guys. It's him making ridiculous shots, steals, passes, blocks, everything. Plus he is one of the best shooters of all time. Won the 3 point contest 3 out of 3 times. Imagine if he played today where they shoot 5 to 10 times as many 3 point shots. He'd average 35-40 points a game.

i remember reading a little bit from a memoir he wrote where he said he actually felt sorry for Michael Jordan because he came later on, and missed out on a lot of great competition from the days where he and Magic were in his prime. That guy loved the fact that he had Magic Johnson to compete against and would have taken that over rolling over easier teams and getting more championships. I think it speaks to how great of a player he was that he doesn't just want to win, he wants to win against the very best and felt that Jordan missed that opportunity by being younger than them. He also said, at the beginning of the book, that the day he retired was one of the happiest days of his life because his back was so messed up at that point.

Definitely take Bird. He can play in an offense. He could get his assists in an offense without controlling the ball. Lebron can't play on a team if he doesn't control the ball. He can't play off the ball. Bird also played hard all game on both sides of the ball. He lead his teams by example. Better shooter. Better at free throws. Great passer. I'll say it. Better passer. Lebron is one of the leaders in league history in turnovers. I don't care if Bird isn't as athletic. He is a better actual player.

Not gonna throw shade on nay of those greats, and magics performance substituting for Kareem in game seven vs Celts was the best we will ever see in playoffs in single game or series , but people really forget how good bird was when he was healthy. For so many years he played with real physical limitation re back and spurs etc. There may have been as good clutch scorers (Jordan) shooters (Reggie) trash talkers/get into your head/fouls off the ball while refs not looking (Lambier) point forwards (Magic) , but when you add up his 3 point range ESP when covered (top ten by any standard) and his leadership, he has top be ANYONES to start a team. Jaunt as magics MVP performance in championships was the best, bird took a lousy celts team his first year and turned it around re wins more than any in shorty-that is like DiMaggio’s hitting streak record-won’t be eclipsed.Look, your rebuilding a franchise from day 1- you need a player to do everything , score efficiently (sorry Kobe ), make ALL your teammates better -sorry LeBron) play at least 3 positions as championship level (sorry MJ, Karem) mentally and psychologically be Able to defeat your opponent single handedly (sorry Oscar), score points (sorry Russ) . When bird was young and healthy he had much more leap and speed. In any pantheon of MVPS (Magic, MJ, Oscar, Russell) a young healthy Bird is simply better all around guy to build any team you want. I think steph curry may eventually get into that zone but his shooting and shot selection are erratic. Who are you going o trust more ? Curry makes shots bird cant, bird will never miss a shot he should make even under pressure. And obisouly if he played under todays no touch, no traveling or palming calls, rules , and comparison with todays stars with guys like bird, Russ, Oscar, Magic MJ is fraught with hazard. No I will say this-game seven of finals, i wont diss anyone picking magic, but if you are starting to build a team from scratch, you draft bird ahead of magic. Consider- you transpose bird and magic in their final NCAA game, Michigan beats Indiana state by at least ten more points.

Any black person that feels comfortable using the term white boy should be utterly comfy with me saying Nigga every 5 seconds like Jay-Z wants me to when he sells me and every other white person his CD Nigga boy

Larry would run for a couple miles before every game. He then would run a couple more miles after every game. His work ethic and talent mixed with his desire to be the best possible player he could be. Created one of the top 5 greatest professional basketball players of all time. As a fellow Hoosier, I am glad that he left I.U. and went to Indiana State. Kent Benson would make fun of Larry Bird about how poor he and his family was and how he would never become a good basketball player. Still to this day, Kent Benson is an S.O.B.

Bird is the GOAT. a white guy the GOAT in a black (mostly) sport. Kinda like Jimi Hendrix is the GOAT electric guitar player. A black man in a primarily white genre. God has a sense of humor.

Reggie's take is telling and I feel it is what fans today either don't know, don't realize, or are lying to themselves about. Today's game is a joke defensively and the great scorer's from the late 70's to the early 90's would explode in today's game. Now overall we may be talking moderate upticks in Points Per Game (PPG), but with the elite guy's especially Larry Bird and Michael Jordan we could be talking 40 to 45+ PPG. I can honestly say 50 a game would be very in reach.
