I went to an amway "seminar" and they were saying how it had freed them financially, one of the speakers said how he was so close to buying himself a "real" car. He was aiming to get himself a Benz (C250) and he was hyping up everyone asking them if they would like to be driving one around and everyone was clapping and everything, I was like what the heck is going on here, he said he'd being in amway for 3years and if he ranked up at the end of the fiscal year, he would be able to afford one. So then he asked me if I would like to drive a car like that at some point in my life(I'm 21), I was well I already own a Mercedes and they are pretty sweet. He then asked how I was able to afford one at such a young age and I was like working, 90-100hrs every two weeks, plus Saturday and Sunday working on my own outside the company I worked at(tile setting for piecework). He then said if I had joined Amway sooner I would have been able to get it in 3yrs time, so I was like well I worked my *ss off for 1 year and saved up to get it. He looked angry at this point, so he stopped asking me questions and I looked around and noticed people around the room looked kind of confused, so he continued talking, I took out my phone texted my brother to call me so I could use that as an excuse to leave the room. He called me and I answered, told the lady that invited me i had to leave. I felt like he was going to deck me in the face at any moment, the tension was enormous so I just decided to never go again, I simply went because I was curious to see this "once in a lifetime opportunity

I almost got into one, thank Allah I didn't. I didn't know about anything mentioned in this video at the time, but when I asked questions about the business, I realized it went against Islamic business principles in sharia. I also noticed the tell-tell signs of brainwashing techniques. When I started pulling away, the people tried to convince me by saying other muslims are doing it, so it's ok. I noped out of there real fast.

Never seen a full video dedicated almost entirely to Herbalife. my parents fell for that, (John's right: Bland-af-tasting-product) back in the mid 80s. As a teen, we, too, had the garage (storage)laundry-room-shelves-full-of-unsold-product. Our laundry room caught fire. Knowing that shhh burned up was one of the happiest days of my life!

I live close to where Amway is headquartered and know around 6 people who sell Amway products and not one of them make enough to make it worth their time, and certainly not enough to quit their day jobs. The problem is that these pyramid schemes already have too many people selling their products. People joining now have no real chance to make a lot of money because they are already way down the chart that it's hard to get anyone beneath them. Point is if you like the products and want to use them then please do so but do not waste your time thinking you can get rich selling them because chances are you can't.

with all of this companies the problem is recruiting, that is the pyramid scheme. There should be laws banning doing any type of business where the revenue comes from recruiting, because the other parts of the business appear more normal. Without the system of revenue by recruiting who in the world would recommend lularoe products they are awful and disgusting.

Send this limey back to Liverpool. He loves to attack things he knows nothing about. Yes, it may be sarcastic comedy, but he only tells half truths, just like all the other hucksters who are vying for subscribers and views. The great thing about the internet is that any asshole can find enough follwers to sustain them. I'm thinking of starting a channel for dieters who want to eat shit. By shit, I don't mean eating junk food, I literally mean shit -- feces. Dogs, cows, horses, pigs, and even mouse turds. Why not? We are fed enough shit everyday from the money-hungry media moguls and wannabees, and the people just lap it up. So, my idea of eating shit is not so far from our normal habits. I plan on recruiting as many TrumpTurd followers as possible because they are already used to a daily diet of shit which they seem to love.

This guy who's a senior software engineer at a top tech company reached out to me via LinkedIn to tell me about a business project he was working on. I'm a software engineer myself right out of university and love to work on projects, and am interested in entrepreneurship, so I of course agreed to FaceTime with him. We had a great talk about entrepreneurship, leadership, and business, but he didn't let me know about any opportunity - instead, to read The Business of the 21st Century by Robert Kiyosaki. Kiyosaki is legit, and I thought that this particular guy was legit, so I read it. Halfway through it reveals what network marketing is. I immediately get turned off from the idea, but finish the book and meet with the guy again. This time, we talk more about network marketing itself and how it'd be a good idea to start a company around it. He recommends to watch a lecture the next week, to which he sends me the link right before it starts. Finally, at this lecture, they reveal that they want us to be individual distributors for Amway. I immediately look up Amway, and realize what's going on. I've yet to respond to the guy, but I'm not down and I hope that this serves as a warning that literally anybody can be sucked in to this sort of 'business opportunity'.

You don't have a clue what a pyramid scheme is. What makes an MLM an illegal pyramid scam is when there are little to no retail sales to non-distributor customers. It's right on the FTC website, you IDIOT. Unlike MLMs, everybody at a company makes money, whereas with MLM scams, most people lose money. Stop being so STUPID.

@Scott Johnson I understand that. Once again, it was a story I thought was funny about a company that appears to be a pyramid scheme with the way the ladies presented it to my mom and I. Not every pyramid is a scheme, I'm aware of that.

    • Scott Johnson

      Scott Johnson

      Dia atrás

@Moogie Moo Moo It's a funny story, but the point is that pyramid scams compare the pyramid shape to a company/military/church organization chart, and ask why those organizations are also not pyramids. It allows them to fool people and scam them.

    • Moogie Moo Moo

      Moogie Moo Moo

      2 dias atrás

@Scott Johnson fair enough, I know it's not the shape that makes it a pyramid scheme since MLMs share the same layout, which is why they are also refered to as pyramid selling. Though Mary Kay sales people make (at least some) money by selling products, a majority of not all of the meeting we went to was focused on how much you can make by recruiting people and how to recruit people rather then selling product. You'd think that if most of their money was from sales the meeting for possible recruits would be more oriented towards sales tactics which is why I believe it's a pyramid scheme if not really close to being one. I thought it was a funny story either way.

    • Scott Johnson

      Scott Johnson

      3 dias atrás

The shape doesn't make it a pyramid scam, it's the lack of retail sales to non-distributors that does.

My dad got into it with his wife. What's crazy is that when we started to speak again after many years of "losing" contact that he tried to get me into herbalife the first day we spoke again. He even signed me up and payed for the fee? I guess to get a discount to buy the stuff (never did) and whatever he gave me ended up sitting on the shelf. I will admit they are doing well and have a "gym" where they work out and make smoothies but I don't know how long that will last and you guessed it, it's all Latinos there. They tried to convince me that it's amazing and you have so much time to spend with family etc. I known so many people trying to sell me avon, Mary kay, Arbonne, CNA, and one who is trying to get me to be with her with primerica. Thank God I got nosy on her IG to find out out what actually she does because she wouldn't tell me. She was so vague but wanted me attend her events and I warned my other friends in case she asked them. I had one girl who moves from one MLM to another that she was selling coffee with some special mushroom (which yes it does have its benefits) and she said it cures cancer!!!! Cancer! I nearly fell into one several weeks ago. At first I was meeting this person about entrepreneurship and she taught me some interesting things. Then, I was given a book to read by Robert Kiyosaki. It talked about network marketing, which is another name for multi-level marketing. My brain raised the first red flag. Then I was invited to see a talk. He spent two hours and twenty minutes in total going on about how his life is going to be great and being a fulltime father and husband, only fifteen minutes in total actually talked about entrepreneurship. Then he said, "it's not a pyramid scheme". Well I wasn't thinking about it, but now that you mentioned it, now I can't stop thinking of it. Then I looked up the speaker's name. He worked at Amway... So many flags were raised that week. If it weren't for this episode, I would've fell for it.

Wasn't Donald Trump involved in endorsing such a scheme. I think it began with the letter A

I feel genuine compassion for the folks below defending MLMs. With their garage full of garbage shakes and vitamins (both unnecessary, medically) , their debs, regrets, and broken social links. A "friend" who even attempted to get me involved, in any way, with the above would be immediately fired from my life. Psychologically its hard to admit one's mistakes - that one has been taken for a fool and one WAS a fool. But it is liberating to do so. The best thing you can do is show people tempted by this criminality this video. It is an indictment of our system they're allowed to exist at all. D.A., JD NYC

So criminal. How do people in the companies making money on exploiting people's stupidity and leveraging their personal, family, or social links and relationships....sleep at night? Google "psychopath". J Oliver is 100% correct, these MLMs are more CRIMINAL than purse snatchers and night burglars. If you know anybody going near any of these MLM's (which made Betsy de Voss rich, btw, look THAT up) please, please show them this video. Its in Spanish also. Let's stop these criminals. I recommend anyone interested in this topic, or who have friends and family caught up in MLM schemes to listen to the podcast "The Dream". They do a really great job of exposing this seedy industry and why they are allowed to exist. Basically, the Van Andal and DeVos families (founders of Amway) are highly influential. Van Andals have controlled the Chamber of Commerce and DeVos family members have controlled the purse strings of the Republican Party (Treasurer for Republican Party). Betsy DeVos has a cabinet position. Ford, Reagan, Clinton & Bush have all taken money from these groups. Ford quashed a DoJ lawsuit against Amway when he became president. He also lived in the same community in Michigan as Dick DeVos. It's the only reason they are allowed to exist. DoJ routinely prosecutes the lower-tier MLM's, but leave the big ones alone (because they donate a ton of cash).
